Arendtsville High School and a school in Wyoming County, PA. filed
for state approval to establish a Vocational School, at the same time.
A coin was flipped to determine which school would be the state's first
Vocational School. Although the Wyoming Co. school became the first,
by this game of chance, Arendtsville Vocational School remained second
to none in its inherent educational values acquired by its graduates.
In 1948, with the High School being vacated because of the consoli-
dation with Biglerville, the high school building was used as a grade
school until 1955, when a new elementary school was built on Fohl Street.
The new building had eight rooms and in 1966, a library and kindergarten
were added. Mr. Lewis Bosserman was principal of this school until his
retirement in 1971.
Some of the teachers who taught in the present elementary school were:
Isabelle Bosserman Evelyn Orner Alma Wert Eck
Florence McDannell Mildred Hildebrand Pauline Rohrbaugh
Mildred Bushey Gordon Gladys Harvey Emma Grove
Sarah Rice Fuss Herbert Raab Jeanne Walsh
Key Guise Gail Griffie Barbara Boyer
Carolyn Sell Judith Howell Larry Kennedy
Dolores Gillelan Mrs. Norma Baum Mrs. David Brewer
Geraldine Bream Jane Dykman Bertha Hykes
Joan Miller Holly Asquith Rogers Pat Boyer
Barbara Pile Kathy Yeck Randy Rouzer
Jennifer Bruno Joyce Dayhoff Maureen McMahon
William Shoemaker
Scholastically, over the years the schools in Arendtsville have
maintained a very high standard, and the present day elementary
school has continued this record.
