Pitzer's School

Special Notes: The Pitzer's School building was completed in 1858 and used for the first time at the opening of school on October 1 of that year. It was the first union school to be erected in Gettysburg, and served as a school building for a period of ninety-seven years. During the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, it was used as a hospital.

This was one of the most recently constructed one-room schools in the area, having been built to replace a building destroyed by fire. It is located on the farm owned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and has been purchased by him.
